Nuevo Durango by Caroline Snyder
Nuevo Durango is a small Maya village located deep in the tropical dry forest of southern Mexico. A few years ago, I went on a biological research trip there with the New Roots upper-school science teacher, David Streib.
My exhibition will consist of art inspired by the bright and bold imagery I observed while traveling through the Maya jungle.

Somber poses meet dog ears and neon colors. This collection goes out of its way to not take itself too seriously, gently poking fun at classic portraiture by including images of feet and iconic objects. The celebration of silly has been the artist’s response, during her first year of painting, to stressful life events

I am a self-taught artist who enjoys many mediums, but I tend to work most in acrylics, pen and ink, oils and colored pencils. I was in the Tee shirt silk screen industry for many years and also designed posters and lithographs. The paintings I complete are on varied topics. Please enjoy the show.

Dennis Bertram, Skyships
The oil paintings of Dennis Bertram, of Buffalo, NY, feature “skyships” or tightly formed visual constructions built from smaller images evoking houses, churches and other buildings. Abstract skyships dominate naturalistic, often figurative paintings that have been physically defaced, dominated and assimilated – a metaphor for militaristic invasions. Flower-inspired “bouquets” relate to our temporal transience, and other works elicit ideas of overpopulation and psychological burden. Learn more about the artist at http://www.dennisbertram.com.
