December 2: Tompkins County Public Library

Tompkins County Public Library 101 E Green St

Join TCPL at the opening of “On Being Human” a multi-media art exhibit curated by Terry Plater. Under the leadership of Terry Plater, and in conjunction with the Smithsonian National Institute of Natural History’s traveling exhibit, “Exploring Human Origins:  What Does It Mean To Be Human?” ten local artists have come together to present—through their art–what they think it means to be human.

Featured artists include Ben Altman, William Benson, Gurdon Brewster, Jane Dennis, Mauro Marinelli, Terry Plater, Lin Price, Sheryl Sinkow, Werner Sun and Robyn Wishna.

The traveling exhibit “Exploring Human Origins” will also be open during Gallery night. Refreshments will be served in the BorgWarner Room. After 6:00 PM, entrance to the Library will be through the BorgWarner door, behind the bus shelter on Green Street.

This exhibit is made possible through grant support from the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County.

CAP barbara mink.jpg

Community Arts Partnership ArtSpace 171 The Commons in Center Ithaca

Come to the CAP ArtSpace for Barbara Mink’s “Winter Journey,” which explores the beauty of Ithaca in winter’s black, white, and shades in between. Works range from by 4×5 foot canvases to smaller framed works on paper, all in ink or acrylic. The name is a nod to Schubert’s wonderful song cycle, which epitomizes to me the beauty that can be found in the season’s cold and stark winter landscape.

Thank you to our 2016 ArtSpace sponsor, Tompkins Trust Company!

Thank you to our December sponsor, The Bookery, used and rare books.

Domenica Brockman: Painting Trees and Light

Recent oil paintings of the local landscape by Domenica Brockman.

“I am inspired by the beauty of the natural world. Living with the extreme seasonal changes of the Finger Lakes area of upstate New York, I love the way I find new colors and scenery every time I go outside. No matter what the weather, I am always looking for the sun, and I try to depict it’s constant, reassuring presence, in the form of light in the picture.”
