The Quilt as Storyteller — Exploring African Historical Patterns in Quilts and Wall Hangings by Leanora Mims

Toni Morrison’s writings have informed my work and poetry writing since I was 10 years old. Pecola was a child driven mad by events in her life she had no control over. Although I was not driven mad, the challenges I faced were overwhelming for me. I was the middle child in a family of 16 children who was fostered by my grandparents. I fell in love with art and living inside my mind and heart where the bullies could not get to me. I danced and painted beautiful pictures and at my classes I was able to see what was in my heart and mind. Toni Morrison gave me my inner world and I am eternally grateful to her for that. September 6th to 30th (Opening 5 to 8pm)
